DirectX 9c Oct Update
Ms has relesead an updated Direct X 9c.
It usually just adds newer features that games have to be programmed for to actually use, but sometimes they do update newer versions of stuff, such as DirectSound 3D.
This is also good to rule out DirectX issues or repairing DX file issues

Yeah, for some newer games (like BF2142) the new versions are required. Sure DX9.0c has been around a while, but few people know they update it every 2 months with new features and bug fixes. It's always good to update it.
I actually just installed the augest one. Oh well. maybe this one will help with my BF2142 crashes (though it said it required augest, not october).

Some newer games such as BF2142 mentioned above, Oblivion, BF2, etc worked with microsoft to add new things not found in DX9c so they added the ability for anygame to use it. Unless the game asks for it (DX9c Aug or higher for example), it's not going to use the new features. I think Farcry was one of the 1st to do this as well.
There were some reports in these forums when DirectSound 3D (3d Sound) was implemented (but before full blown EAX support was added) that updating to the newer DX9c versions helped with some audio/performance issues they were having with guild wars.
All newer versions contain all the previous monthly updates.

I actually bet that when you installed the game from the cd it installed a newer version of dx9c automatically as part of the install. but I would still update.

Thanks for posting this. I'm normally on the ball when it comes to keeping my system up to date, but I missed this release.
Oh well, it's installed now and that's all that matters.

Hmmm... I read reports that the September update was the last one. Oh well, glad to see another DX9c update.
